Painting in the 21st Century has begun to address how the new and continuously updated digitally-influenced tools of perception affect the way one reflexively makes and experiences art. We can question the role of painting, a primarily analogue practice, within the complexity of a continuously re-contextualized 21st century modernism. This panel  explores the following issues for painters: Re-contextualization from analog to digital, and/or re-contextualization of the history of painting in light of its contemporary function or dys-function within the framework of an increasingly digitally and media saturated world. Interest is in exploring interactions between painting and digital modes of representation and/or communication through a wide range of painting influenced practices such as two-dimensional painting, installation, and time-based media.
